First Sight Cover Reveal and Virtual Tour Dates

I'm very excited to share the new cover for FIRST SIGHT!

If you missed my announcement earlier this year, I signed with Booktrope to re-release my chick lit novel FIRST SIGHT.  I'm very excited to be working with them.

Maddy Smith writes for a trendy website in Washington DC, has two fabulous best friends, and her own apartment. When a girl’s night out ends with her locking eyes with the handsome stranger across the room, the last thing she expects is for him to show up at her office on Monday morning.

Travis Emerson, her attractive and single new colleague, just moved to town. Although an immediate friendship between Maddy and Travis forms, she soon finds herself wishing for something more. After a misunderstanding between them occurs, not only is her hope for a relationship ruined, but their friendship is in jeopardy as well. Is any chance that Maddy had with Travis over? Or could he possibly be what she’s been looking for all along?

Follow Maddy and Travis on a series of adventures that will quickly have you cheering them on. First date jitters? Not when you’ve been in love since First Sight!

Stitch Fix July 2015

Happy July!

I haven't ordered a fix from Stitch Fix since January.  It's been even longer since I've blogged about one of my fixes!  I was ready for some fun summer pieces and specifically asked for summer tops and maxi dresses. Here's what was in my July box:

I was excited to see lots of fun patterns in my box!  I love fun prints for summer time.  They also sent a maxi dress that I pinned on my Pinterest Stitch Fix Inspiration Board.

Urban Expressions Rex Hobo
The first item was this Urban Expressions Rex Hobo.  I hadn't requested any handbags but absolutely loved it.  You can zip the sides to make it smaller if need be.  The large size is perfect for toting work items or kiddo stuff around.

Verdict: KEEP!

Collective Concepts Lydia Blouse
This blouse was pretty, and I liked the keyhole cutout in neckline.  The pattern and colors just aren't my style though. It was also pricey at $68.  I might have liked it in a different print or for a lower price.

Verdict: Sent Back

Sweet Rain Toledo Blouse

This blouse looks great in the picture, but it is actually very, very bright.  The yellow is neon!  If it was subtle colors like this photo shows, I probably would have kept it.  The neon made it a definite "no" for me.

Verdict: Sent back

Skies are Blue Roe Top

I actually liked colors and pattern of this top.  It was made incorrectly though.  One side is several inches longer than the other, as seen in this picture.  That was pretty disappointing.  I didn't bother requesting an exchange.

Verdict: Sent Back

Renee C Alecia Abstract Print Maxi Dress
The last item was a maxi dress I pinned on my Pinterest board. I forgot to snap a picture of it!  This was my favorite item, and it actually fit great.  I was *thisclose* to keeping it, but the colors were so bright, I just didn't think I'd wear it that often.  It's not really the type of dress you can wear too frequently because it definitely stands out.  Hopefully I won't regret not keeping this one!

Verdict: Sent Back

I've already scheduled another summer fix since I only kept one item from this box. I'm looking forward to seeing what my stylist picks next!

Friday Favorites: Summertime Edition!

It's been a while since I've done a Friday Favorites post.  Here are some of my favorites for summer!

How cute are these sandals?  They are comfy like my favorite Birkenstocks but come in a fun leopard print!

This maxi dress from Old Navy is perfect for July. I've posted before how much I love striped dresses. This one is so easy to throw on during the steamy summer weather.

Old Navy has the cutest dresses for toddlers and preschoolers, too!  I love this fun striped one.  What little girl doesn't love rainbows?

Everyone needs a large tote for the pool and beach.  This one has cute pom-poms decorating it. So fun!

What are some of your favorites for summertime?

Book Buzz: SEAL the Deal

I've started a new feature this summer called Book Buzz where I'm sharing new releases!  You can read my first Book Buzz here.

Are you a fan of military romances?  SEAL THE DEAL, the first book in Makenna Jameison's new Alpha SEALs series, is scorching hot!

SEAL THE DEAL

She needs his protection almost as much as she needs his heart…

Rebecca Mayes has already endured more than her fair share of tragedy. After her husband was killed in a horrific car crash, she’d do anything to shield herself from more heartache. A highly sought after attorney, Rebecca’s success in the courtroom has not come without costs. The disgruntled ex-husband of a client is seeking revenge on the one he blames for his troubles—and his sights are set on Rebecca. While she remains blissfully unaware, he’s stalking her, and getting closer every day.

Navy SEAL Patrick “Ice” Foster vowed to never be in a relationship again after watching his ex-wife slowly die of cancer. That type of anguish was more than he could handle in one lifetime, and there’s no way anyone can change his mind.

Despite their determination never to fall in love again, Rebecca and Patrick can’t deny the connection between them. But when danger lurks around every corner, she knows there’s only one man she can trust to protect both her and her daughter. But who will protect her from a broken heart?

SEAL the Deal, a stand-alone novel, is book one in the new series, Alpha SEALs.

Kindle Edition Normalized Page Count

There's been a lot of uproar lately amongst some indie authors over Amazon's new method of paying authors participating in the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) program.

As of July 1, Amazon is paying authors based on the number of pages read, not the number of books borrowed.  This change is already reflected in the KDP reports.

This change puts authors of full-length books on equal footing with those who publish novellas and shorts.  Under the old system, an author could publish a 20-page "book" and get paid the same amount as an author who wrote a 300-page book.  The author writing a short or serial could spread out the story in twenty different installments, getting paid for each one and therefore making significantly more money than the author who published their entire story in one book.

Unless you're an author writing those shorts or serials, I don't see a reason to be upset over this change.  It evens the playing field for everyone, allowing authors to get paid per page.  If you've written a longer story, you'll get paid more for your work.
